The purpose of my research is to create music from the navigation buoys light sequences, that are anchored within Plymouth Sound.

As a composer, I have been looking for different approaches from which to compose music. My intention is to sonify the light sequences into music and thus acquire sound from “The Sound”.

I aim to discover if these light sequences have any crossover into musical elements and if they could be used as a compositional tool to create music. Additionally, I will seek to add a degree of interaction to the sonification, where one can control certain parameters of music.

Looking forward at further prospective research, I will seek to use this research as a springboard into researching more sonification as a compositional tool that will have more acceptance within music academia.
